About Us

Owner, Ben Squire, opened The Boathouse Cafe, founded on a life-long passion for fishing. At the age of 21, with the help of a £1000 grant from The Princes Trust, Ben purchased a fishing boat and started a small business taking the first mackerel and deep-sea fishing trips in Plymouth.

Since then, the business has flourished and he now owns a fleet of cruise boats, fishing boats and ferries, connecting Devon and Cornwall.

Ben’s love of fishing and food, inspired him to open The Boathouse, within the arches that were once his fisherman’s stores. Now, lovingly renovated by a team of craftsmen, the stores have been transformed. The Boathouse now houses a beautiful handcrafted wooden bar, restaurant, takeaway and, The Scallop Shack and Fishmongers – a fish lover’s dream!

OUR MENUS

From breakfast and light lunches through to evening dining, The Boathouse serves a varied menu of fish and shellfish, caught locally by us, along with mouthwatering meat and vegetarian dishes - all made using fresh, locally sourced produce.

Our specials menu is always changing based on what's in season and what’s available from our own day boats, The Sidney Rose and the Elin D. We never know what we’ll catch from squid, crab and lobster to mackerel, sea bass, gurnard, whiting and more. What we do know is it’ll be caught locally and served fresh to you within hours.
